Sunstreak is Brian Faulkner’s definitive Nostalgia era power model (published in 1956), featuring a thin, undercambered wing with full geodetic construction, rear fin, long tail moment, and moderate stab area. It is perhaps the ultimate Nostalgia competition design.
We have enlarged the Sunstreak 200% to a 72″ flat span and 690 sq in wing area, it is comfortably legal for AMA A/B Electric, E-Nostalgia, and B/C Nostalgia Power. It is light and strong enough to handle the necessary ballistic climbs required for all of these events and the wing spar has been reconfigured to a webbed top/bottom configuration while complying with all NFFS Nostalgia rules. Our prototype uses a red hot Brotherhobby electric power system and weighs only 32 oz all up.
Our Sunstreak kit includes all parts and materials for both glow and electric flight, and detailed full sized plans. The geodetic construction requires a little creativity and extra sanding for a good parts fit, however the overall design is very forgiving of mistakes due to the rigid structure. Covering is not included, however we recommend the new Chinese plastic coverings available from Hobbyking or similar, as they are similar in behavior to the old Monokote films.
Recommended power systems:
.25-.36 Nostalgia legal glow engine with ballast as needed for minimum weight, with dethermalizer capable timer such as the ones we carry
Electric system using 40A ESC, 900kv brushless outrunner weighing 70-120g, APC 9×5-10×6 prop (folding props are NOT recommended!), 6s 700-950mah lipo of at least 70C, and BMK E36+ RDT/timer or equivalent.
