Workshop at Pitsco headquarters, July 31, Pittsburg, KS, 1pm-6pm

AMA sanctioned Category II Indoor Free Flight Contest, August 1, Plaster Center, Pittsburg, KS, 8am-6pm

Workshops for Science Olympiad, Technology Student Association, and AMA/ FAI competition flying.

Price includes 1 kit of participant’s choice (glider or rubber power) and materials used in class for completion.

Experts will be present to assist in trimming, flying, contest strategies, and mentoring programs for youth and adults.

Grade Recommendations

To ensure participants have the best experience, we recommend the following:

Grades 7 and below: Register for the Glider Workshop. These models are simpler to build and align with STEM competitions that use gliders through 8th grade.

Grades 8 and above: Register for the Rubber-Powered Workshop.

Exception: Students competing in Science Olympiad Division B (2026-27 season) should register for the Glider Workshop, regardless of grade.

Parent Attendance

Parents are encouraged to attend with their children during the workshop.

For participants below 8th grade who have not previously built a successful flying model, parent attendance is strongly recommended to provide assistance throughout the building process.

What to Bring

For workshop participants, your registration includes:

One aircraft kit (Glider or Rubber Powered)

Basic tools and workshop materials

We recommend bringing:

An 11″ × 17″ paper storage box to safely transport your completed aircraft. These lightweight models can be easily damaged by outdoor wind.

Lunch and any personal snacks or drinks for the August 1 competition.

Flying-Only Participants: Please bring your own aircraft to fly. Winders and launchers will be available to borrow, but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have them.

Safety Information

Workshop participants will use tools and materials such as razor blades, hobby knives, and super glue while constructing their aircraft. Parents and guardians should ensure participants are comfortable using these materials safely. Adult supervision is encouraged for younger builders.
